Why Speed-First Systems Don’t Hold Up
The 1-day installation model is appealing. Contractors can complete more installations with less labor, which means more profits. But what is faster and more profitable to install is not better for the consumer.
Concrete is deceptively porous. Beneath a smooth surface, it’s riddled with pathways that let groundwater migrate upward through the slab, and once that moisture reaches the top, it converts to vapor and pushes outward against whatever is sealing the surface.
A thin polyaspartic coating applied directly to bare concrete sets within hours, which sounds convenient but means it hardens before it can form a real bond with a slab. Once moisture vapor meets that coating, bubbling, peeling, or full separation from the concrete tend to follow.
“There is nothing wrong with polyaspartic technology, we use it extensively ourselves,” said Robert G. Rapid-cure polyaspartics and polyureas belong on top of the system, not directly on the concrete.”
A Second Day, By Design
