On the auspicious weekend of Raksha Bandhan, AHEAD brings communities together to celebrate culture, connection and shared humanity.
NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, August 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — On August 29, AHEAD (American Hindus for Engagement and Dialogue) in partnership with 200 organizations will host Universal Oneness, a cultural and interfaith celebration inspired by the timeless Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – “the world is one family.”
The gathering will bring people from diverse faiths, cultures and backgrounds together through music, dance, prayer, tradition and dialogue, creating a space to celebrate both what makes us different and what connects us. The celebration takes place on the auspicious weekend of Raksha Bandhan, a festival that symbolizes protection, care and the bonds that connect us. It offers a fitting backdrop for a gathering centered on the idea that our circle of care can extend beyond our immediate families and communities to embrace our shared humanity.
The program will feature “United in Rhythm,” “Movement Across Traditions,” a Raksha Bandhan ceremony, blessings by Native Elders, collective chanting, and a range of interfaith and cultural experiences. The gathering will also feature remarks from Dr. Mohan Bhagwat and other renowned leaders.
Why This Matters
The Indian diaspora has become an important and vibrant part of the American story. As Indian Americans including Hindus-Americans share their traditions and voices more broadly, there is also a growing need for greater understanding, education and meaningful dialogue around culture, identity and faith. Universal Oneness seeks to be part of that conversation
